The Laboratory Assessment Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will appoint members to the Panel on Assessment of the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) Technical Assessment Board: 2025 Panel on Assessment of Humans in Complex Systems: This panel will focus on assessing work related to Humans in Complex Systems. This panel provides input to the Army Research Laboratory Technical Assessment Board (ARLTAB), which produces an annual report covering each year's partial assessment of ARL.
An ad hoc committee to be named the Army Research Laboratory Technical Assessment Board (ARLTAB), to be overseen by the Laboratory Assessments Board, will be appointed to continue the function of providing annual assessments of the scientific and technical quality of the Army Research Laboratory (ARL). These assessments will include findings and recommendations related to the quality of ARL's research, development, and analysis programs. While the primary role of the ARLTAB is to provide peer assessment, it may offer advice on related matters when requested by the ARL Director.
This panel will include 8 experts from academia and industry with expertise in humans in complex systems-related disciplines including:
- Dynamic Team Systems: Research to understand dynamic team interactions and leverage emergent team properties to enhance human-system performance.
- Human-System Behavior: Research to develop novel approaches to sense, interpret, and predict state changes, across spatial-temporal scales, to enable effective behavior across contexts.
- Cognitive Augmentation: Research aimed at uncovering foundational approaches to enhance cognition through deep system integration.
The National Academies value a wide range of perspectives to strengthen the quality of our work. We carefully consider alternative viewpoints when formulating advice, convening experts with differing experience and perspectives, providing oversight, and conducting all other activities, and strive to foster an environment where all can participate fully. We welcome your suggestions for a broad range of experts to work with us.
