The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine seeks suggestions of experts to be considered for membership on the Committee on Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Sciences (CAMOS). CAMOS provides an independent, authoritative forum for identifying and discussing issues in atomic, molecular, and optical sciences among the research community, the federal government, and the interested public, thereby serving as a unifying force in this diverse and varied field. CAMOS also supports scientific progress and assists the federal government in the planning of programs in the atomic, molecular, and optical sciences by providing advice on the implementation of decadal survey recommendations.
Staff will be looking for around six volunteer experts, including possible co-chair nominees. General suggestions are welcome though expertise is primarily sought in the following areas:
- Quantum information science and technologies (e.g., computing, simulation, sensing)
- Neutral atom platforms (e.g., optical lattices, tweezers, Rydberg systems)
- Ultracold atomic and molecular systems (including many-body and strongly interacting regimes)
- Fundamental physics and precision measurement
- Industrial/national lab perspective
- Federal agency experience, as researcher or as program manager
- International AMO community perspective
