The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to participate in a new study on the future of drought in the United States. The Study committee will consider approaches for drought characterization, assessment, and response under a changing climate. The committee will recommend a framework for incorporating non-stationarity considerations into drought assessment, which will be used across a range of geographic regions and spatial and temporal scales to inform decision-making for short-term risk management and long-term adaptation.
Using these suggestions, National Academies staff will be looking to build a committee of approximately 10 volunteer experts in addition to collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers for any publications resulting from the activity.
Based on the Statement of Task, staff are looking for expertise particularly in the following areas:
- hydrology
- dynamical and statistical meteorology
- climatology including climate variability and climate change
- weather and climate modeling
- statistics
- paleoclimatology
- sociology
- economics
*Membership in NAS, NAE, or NAM is not required to suggest an expert for this study.
