Overland Expo Editorial Director

Scope of Work

The Editorial Director is a part-time contract managing the editorial strategy for Overland Expo’s editorial platforms: The Compass on overlandexpo.com, Overland Sourcebook magazine, Overland News (weekly e-newsletter), and the annual Ultimate Overland Build program.   The Editorial Director sets the tone, guides the narrative, and ensures a cohesive voice across all editorial channels.  The Director manages a team of freelancers to produce event articles, branded content coverage and native editorials.  The role works closely with marketing to plan and execute SEO strategies to foster organic audience growth and drive event attendance.  The Editorial Director also works with the sales team to develop paid editorial inventory driving branded content revenue and manages the brand’s affiliate marketing strategy. 
 

RESPONSIBILITES: 

  • Manage and contribute to The Compass with event stories, paid branded content and native editorial. 

  • Create and manage an annual editorial calendar. 

  • Work with marketing to curate stories for the weekly Overland E-Newsletter 

  • Manage analytics, web traffic and SEO strategies behind editorial campaigns, working with marketing to align on articles needed to drive organic traffic to sites. 

  • Work with marketing to develop lead magnets to drive new subscriber sign ups 

  • Manage Overland Expo’s writers and freelancers including the editorial voice, annual content calendar, & writing pace 

  • Work with marketing and sales to build and execute editorial branded content packages for clientele and plan for paid ad campaigns to support paid branded content editorial  

  • Work with marketing to prioritize paid and organic promotion of editorial content across all content platforms including social media, LinkedIn, and email newsletters/marketing. 

  • Manage BrightEdge keyword ranking and SEO audit. 

  • Manage editorial planning to support the annual Ultimate Overland Build program 

  • Supervise project managers and freelance editorial contributors of the ultimate overland vehicle and motorcycle annual editorial projects  

  • Manage affiliate marketing software & editorial campaigns to support sales efforts   

  • Manage editorial planning and copy editing to the annual Overland Sourcebook Guide 

  • Create editorial coverage of each event, traveling to events as needed or coordinating freelance coverage. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience leading the development and execution of strategic multiple content channels and publications; preference for overland, automotive or outdoor-related product/industry experience  

  • A track record of success leading a freelance team to execute goals across multiple products in a content portfolio  

  • Demonstrated success in using SEO strategies to drove digital subscriber growth 

  • Highly goal driven with a strong sense of urgency, with a balance of leading and “doing”  

  • Experience successfully using WordPress, Google Analytics and SEO tools/software 

  • Experience defining and translating data into actionable insights that influence editorial strategy 

  • Proactive, independent work style that demonstrates the ability to effectively prioritize, multitask, and identify potential challenge areas with limited oversight  

  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate successfully with multiple functional groups (sales, editorial, etc)   

ROLE DETAILS 

 

  • Salary range: $40-$45k based on experience 

  • Role is a part time, 10-99 Independent Contractor position 

  • 100% remote 

  • Travel required to events as needed (travel expenses covered by Overland Expo)
