Thank you for your interest in this course. This course matches students with healthcare providers in San Luis Obispo County to gain shadowing experience and learn about a health career of interest. It is intended for second+ year students with GPAs of 3.0 or higher, and who demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing a career in healthcare. Please note:
Shadowing placements are limited and availability varies by quarter.
You must have at least a 3-4 hour block of time during business hours to shadow in weeks 3-9 that is
not during the 12-1 pm lunch hour (eg. 9-12; 1-4). In addition to completing weekly clinical observations, you will be required to submit a weekly journal, complete a 1:1 professional development meeting with the instructor, and submit a 1-2 page career reflection paper.
The class has 3 required class meetings and is scheduled to meet on Fridays from 12:10-2 pm during week 1 (Friday, April 4), week 2 (Friday, April 11), and week 10 (Friday, June 6).
Full attendance (for in-person and/or virtual meetings) for the entire duration of the class is required on those dates, and there are
no exceptions, so please only apply if you will be able to attend class on all of those dates.
You may save your responses to this application and return to complete it later (see the grey link at the top of the page). However, the application is due no later than
Friday, March 7th at 11:59 pm. If you are selected, you will hear from me no later than March 28, 2025. Permission numbers are handed out after all required onboarding documentation has been completed. Please make note of these dates for future reference.
Some clinical sites require extensive documentation to be completed before you can shadow. If offered a placement, you will be notified of what documentation is needed. Please only apply if you are willing to provide this documentation before the start of the term.
