Kids Helpline counsellors answered 122,356 contacts. Not all people who contact need counselling -
sometimes people are just asking questions, etc..
Kids Helpline counsellors did 70,618 total counselling sessions in 2023.
Answer = Afternoons and evenings
7out of 10 counselling sessions happen outside of the regular business hours of 9-5, Monday to Friday.
This means the wait time to speak to a counsellor on phone or webchat is usually longest in the evenings
as the demand for support is really high and it's our busiest time.
If you're trying to connect after school, please know that calls and webchats are answered in order –
so the person who’s been waiting the longest will be the next to be answered.
Please keep trying and stay on the phone/web.
We really appreciate your patience and understanding! Thank you!
Answer = False!
All our counsellors are paid professionals (not volunteers) and are passionate about supporting young people.
This means that every time you contact us you are speaking to a university qualified, experienced counsellor.
Answer = False.
We say you can contact us ‘anytime’ - which means we’re open 24/7.
But there may be boundaries/limits to how often you can call (e.g. you can’t call lots of times in one day or week).
We have these boundaries to make sure it’s fair to everyone trying to contact us for support.
We want to make sure we can answer as many contacts for help as possible!
(Thanks so much for your understanding with this)!
