The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to be considered for the membership rotation or other engagement with the Standing Committee on Emerging Infectious Diseases and 21st Century Health Threats. The standing committee of experts will help inform the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) on critical science and policy issues related to emerging infectious diseases and other health threats. Since March 2020, the standing committee has consistently generated real-time policy recommendations and produced an unprecedented amount of timely, evidence-based guidance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and other emerging public health threats. Looking ahead, the standing committee will continue to ensure that ASPR and decision-makers have access to the latest high-quality evidence-based insights to inform medical and public health preparedness for, response to, and recovery from disasters and public health emergencies.
Using these suggestions, National Academies staff will be looking to fill 12-15 open seats on the standing committee of approximately 25 total volunteer experts, in addition to collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and other forms of engagement.
