The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to be considered for the membership rotation or other engagement with the Standing Committee on Emerging Infectious Diseases and 21st Century Health Threats. The standing committee of experts will help inform the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) on critical science and policy issues related to public health and national security threats.
Using these suggestions, National Academies staff will be looking to fill several open seats on the standing committee, in addition to collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and other forms of engagement.
Based on the Statement of Task and the continuing membership of the committee, staff are looking for individuals with professional experience in emerging infectious diseases and public health preparedness and response and expertise in:
- Infectious Disease and Health Security – Specialists in infectious disease epidemiology, pandemic preparedness, One Health, and emerging pathogen surveillance who inform prevention and control strategies.
- Medical Countermeasures (MCMs) – Professionals focused on research, development, regulation, and deployment of vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, and protective equipment during public health emergencies.
- Medical Supply Chains – Leaders in medical supply chain resilience.
- State and Local Medical and Public Health Preparedness, Response, and Recovery – Leaders in developing and evaluating public health systems for readiness, surveillance, and community-level response.
- AI Integration and Digital Innovation – Leaders in AI integrations and applications in data modelling, preparedness planning, and operational real-time decision-making and coordination during emergencies.
- Disaster Medicine and Emergency Health Systems – Experts in clinical and operational aspects of disaster response, trauma systems, medical surge, and emergency coordination across civilian and military sectors.
- Regulatory and Health Law – Experts in federal, state, and local health laws and regulation.
