Oral Health (Dental Nursing) National Occupational Standard Consultation

Introduction

Skills for Health has been commissioned by Skills Development Scotland to carry out a review of the Dental Nursing suite of National Occupational Standards (NOS).

National Occupational Standards (NOS) describe the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to do a particular job to a nationally recognised level of competence.

The need to revise these Oral Health NOS has arisen following the introduction of new General Dental Council (GDC) Safe Practitioner Framework. These new standards for proficiency for the dental team known as ‘Safe Practitioner’, were published by the General Dental Council in November 2023, which the NOS must now reflect.

To ensure that all stakeholders have the opportunity to contribute feedback and input to the final versions of the NOS, Skills for Health are now carrying out a public consultation.

This consultation should take no longer than 30 minutes. Please help us by contributing to this consultation.

The deadline for the consultation is at midday on Monday, 23 December 2024.

Thank you for taking part.

NOTE: There is a new NOS added to this suite for review as part of this survey, SFHOH34 (Maintain personal and professional practice for dental care professionals). This standard is about maintaining professional standards of conduct, performance and ethics and the regulatory requirements that govern dental professionals.

The links to the NOS are placed at the relevant sections throughout this survey. However, if you require a word version of these documents please email Competences@skillsforhealth.org.uk
