Capacity Building Survey for Appalachian Organizations

Introduction

Capacity is the ability to prioritize local challenges and generate effective solutions. Through funding, no-cost training, development opportunities, and technical assistance, ARC helps Appalachians build capacity at the individual, organizational, and community levels. Together, these investments aim to empower Appalachians - of all ages and backgrounds - to participate in the region's economic growth.

This survey is intended for organizations and leaders in the Appalachian Region. See a map of ARC Counties here.
  • For the purposes of this survey, capacity building includes technical assistance, services, webinars, trainings, personnel, or other supports for organizational capacity.
  • We hope to learn about your organization’s capacity needs, whether or not you have engaged with ARC in the past or are currently working with ARC.
  • Please be honest, there are no right or wrong answers. Your answers will be anonymous and confidential. No identifying information or individual responses will be shared with ARC or any external party.
The survey will be open from November 2024 through February 2025. It should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. All responses will be aggregated, and no individual responses or personally identifiable information will be shared. Results will be incorporated into the strategic plan for ARC capacity building for the next five years.

This survey is administered by RTI International, an independent nonprofit research institute, with financial support from the Appalachian Regional Commission. Your participation in this survey is voluntary. We expect no risk of harm as a result of taking this survey, and you can exit at any time. For more information, see RTI’s policy on research protection: https://www.rti.org/ethics-human-rights-and-human-research-protection.

Note: the word “organization” will be used throughout the survey to describe the entity you work for or are primarily associated with. This word can refer to local governments, universities, etc. as well as nonprofit organizations and Local Development Districts (LDDs).
