Practice Current: How Do You Counsel Patients About Functional/Dissociative Seizures and Driving?

Introduction

For this study, we refer to the term active functional/dissociative seizures, also known as psychogenic-nonepileptic seizures/attacks. Unlike epileptic seizures, functional/dissociative seizures are not due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain. The term active functional seizures means that the disorder is not resolved, and that the patient had one or more functional seizures within the past 6 months.

This questionnaire explores situations related to the driving abilities of patients with active functional/dissociative seizures. We aim to gather your professional opinions on handling these situations in daily practice. Your honest input is valuable, and there is no right or wrong answer.

All questions refer to patients with a high diagnostic certainty of functional seizures and without any other somatic or psychiatric disorder impeding the patient's safety as a driver.
