Competency-Based, Mission-Driven Governance
The ABIM Board of Directors is vigilant about upholding the principles and practices of high-functioning non-profit governance. Board membership is competency-based and aims to reflect the diversity of the discipline of Internal Medicine.
This Candidate Information Form will ask you about your:
- demographics
- leadership experience
- vision of the ABIM mission
You will be requested to provide:
- contact for a professional reference
- CV
- Letter of Support (which may be from your reference) .

Before you begin, here are answers to frequently asked questions and important dates:
- The Governance Committee will vet candidates throughout the fall and into early 2025.
- The full Board of Directors is expected to vote on new Directors no later than its April 2025 meeting. All Candidates will be notified after the Board's decision is final.
- The Director-Elect will be required to attend an all-day in-person Governance Orientation held at the ABIM offices in Philadelphia on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
- The Director-Elect will also be invited to attend the Board's June 9 & 10, 2025 meeting as a guest before the official Director term begins July 1, 2025.
- ABIM Directors serve three-year terms.
