Food Pantry Garden Student Assistant Application

The Honors Program is hiring 1-2 paid Student Assistants to support Cal Poly’s Food Pantry Garden. This is a hands-on, event-focused role where students will help maintain the garden, assist in workdays/events, and engage the campus community. A great opportunity to gain valuable gardening skills while developing leadership, event coordination, and community engagement experience. The time commitment is up to 5-10 hours per week depending on if we hire 1 or 2 at the rate of $16.50 per hour. The position runs through the 2025–2026 academic year.

Responsibilities include:
  • Actively participate in day-to-day garden maintenance with the garden manager or on your own time (planting, weeding, watering, composting, along with harvesting and washing/preparing harvests for the food pantry).
  • Assist with planning, attending, leading, and setting up interactive garden events (workshops, planting sessions, harvest days, cooking/food demos).
  • Welcome and guide volunteers; demonstrate good gardening practices during group workdays.
  • Regularly meet with and communicate with the garden manager.
