Code of Ethics for STH Practitioners

Consultation on a Code of Ethics for Social and Therapeutic Horticulture Practitioners in the UK

Thank you for taking the time to respond to this consultation.  When answering questions please refer to the Code of Ethics PDF document found here Professional Development | Trellis (trellisscotland.org.uk)

The Code of Ethics is a draft for consultation. The fundamental question is: could you, as a STH practitioner or aspiring practitioner, sign up to this Code, and if not, why not?

We are not expecting you to provide detailed feedback on the wording; we want to know whether the draft captures the essential features of a professional Code of Ethics for STH practitioners.

The Code of Ethics is currently a pdf document, but the final version could have embedded internal links so it is easy to navigate and expand/condense sections, and use colour to differentiate parts where it’s helpful. It could also be set up with links to: useful resources, examples and case studies to illustrate points, and to where a point is covered in more detail in eg. the Standards of Practice. There is currently a working group looking at the Standards of Practice.
 
1. For survey questions 1 and 2 refer to the introductory 3 paragraphs of the Code of Ethics. 

As an alternative to ‘client-centred’ this text could say ‘person-centred’. Which would you prefer? *This question is required.

8. In the sub-section 'Scope of Practice', would you add ‘If a client’s presenting themes feel out of our limits of ability and unsafe to hold, for personal or professional reasons, we will signpost the client to another practitioner or service’?  (or wording along these lines).
