3. Route & Features: I understand:
(1) Day hikes and walks are described as easy or moderate – as defined in the Mountaineers Hiking Activity Standards; and Mountaineers Urban Walk Standards;
(2) There is one hike at Gros Morne NP that is on the high end of the moderate scale (up to 12 miles, 2900' elevation gain);
(3) Hikes and walks occur during Newfoundland's summer season, but rain and fog may occur during this trip. Depending on the situation and to minimize risk, these may cause changes in the planned itinerary;
(4) Naturalist activities are a part of the itinerary and I am expected to fully participate;
(5) Trip leader and another group member will drive the group in a rental vehicle for the entire trip. Driving route includes 1,000+ miles. *This question is required.

4. Preparedness: I understand that this trip requires excellent aerobic conditioning, balance, skills, gear and ability to carry a daypack safely and without undue stress on multiple days in a row. Trails may have boardwalks, uneven tread, rocks, roots or mud. Newfoundland has a marine climate which means weather conditions may change over the course of a single day including: sun, sun-exposure, rain, fog, wind, windchill. I am aware of how to prepare myself for changeable weather conditions and protect myself from hypothermia. I certify that I will be prepared with the experience, skills, conditioning, and gear to safely meet the requirements of the trip.

5. Accommodations, Meals and Self-Pay: I understand and agree:
(1) Trip price includes a room of my own at the Cormack farmhouse (Days 2-4), Rocky Harbour cabins (Days 5-8) and accommodations near Terra Nova NP (Day 9). At Bonavista peninsula (Day 10), twin-share accommodation is provided;
(2) Cost of accommodations for hotels near St. John's are not included in trip cost (Days 0-1 and Days 11-13). I will cooperate with Trip leader to reserve rooms for me in my name & my own credit card number. I, alone, am fully responsible to fulfill the hotel's requirements for payment;
(3) Regarding hotel rooms in St. John's held for this trip (Day 0-1 & 11-13), if I am unable to cooperate in a timely manner with Trip Leader to reserve these hotel rooms in my name & my credit card, I will be removed from the roster and subject to the cancellation terms of this trip per item 16 of this Trip Agreement;
(4) Except those specifically included in the Trip Description and trip cost, I am fully responsible to pay for all my food and drinks;
(5) The fees and expenses in the Trip Description were calculated as of August 2024 and included an estimate for 2025 price increases. If the exchange rate or tax rates cause an increase in the trip cost, I will pay the increased amount. Trip price adjustment, if any, is expected to be less than 10%;
(6) I am fully responsible to make my own arrangements for all excursions not included in the Trip Description and will make payment as instructed by their representative. This clause does not include optional activities offered by the Trip Leader on Days 4, 8 or 11;
(7) Neither The Mountaineers nor the Trip Leader are responsible to fulfill any of the self-pay hotel or food expenses mentioned in this section. *This question is required.

7. Food including Dietary Restrictions and Preferences: I understand it is my own responsibility to investigate foods/menu items that are compatible with my needs. I will handle my own accommodation requests.

8. Environmental Sensitivities/Allergies: I understand that I am responsible for mitigating, treating or addressing my environmental sensitivities and/or allergies in a safe and effective manner. I will promptly inform the Trip Leader how I’m being affected but will not expect the Trip Leader to find a remedy and, as needed, will work with the Trip Leader to find a solution that does not adversely impact the entire group.

9. Travel Documents: I understand and agree: At my own expense, I am required to hold up-to-date travel documents, international Med-Evac insurance that works in Canada. The evacuation insurance should be sufficient to get me back to the hospital of my choice in the United States.

10. Teamwork: I understand that this is a group trip and that participants will look out for and support each other on the trail. Pace, daily start-end times, route and any necessary modifications of the itinerary will be driven by the needs of the group and conditions on the ground.

11. Leadership: I understand that safety and well-being of participants comes first and the itinerary and route may change without prior notice based on conditions. While participant input will be valued, the Mountaineers trip leader will be the ultimate decision maker. I understand that Global Adventures trip leaders are volunteer leaders and not professional guides.

12. Responsibility: I understand that the Mountaineers trip leaders are not guides and that I am responsible for knowing the route and where I am along the route at all times. I understand that a Global Adventures trip significantly differs from a commercial trip in that a higher level of self-reliance, self-care, being self-informed and prioritization of group interactions and interdependence is expected. I understand and accept these responsibilities.

13. Covid-19 Risk Management: I commit to follow these risk management practices: (1) I will test for and not be Covid positive at the onset of this trip; (2) I will be appropriately vaccinated against Covid; (3) I will practice conservative Covid behavior before and during transit to the trip; (4) I will carry Covid self-tests on the trip and use them if I experience any symptoms commonly related to Covid; (5) If I test positive for Covid, I will leave the group and quarantine at my own expense; (6) I will follow recommendations from the WA Dept of Health before rejoining the group; and (6) If I have been exposed during the trip but do not test positive, I will follow CDC and WA Health Dept recommendations regarding hygienic practices following exposure to COVID. *This question is required.

14. Fitness and Medical Conditions: I commit to providing a doctor’s certification of medical fitness if requested, and to disclose to the leader and outfitter in advance of the trip about any recent injuries, surgeries, allergies, medications, chronic physical conditions or medical conditions that could impact me on the trip.

15. Behavior: I commit to behave in a careful, safe and respectful manner to other Mountaineers and to the Canadian people. I commit to promptly communicate to the Trip Leader about my own illness or injury (physical, emotional, mental). I commit to effectively address my injurious or disruptive behavior when notified, if any, in a manner that promotes safe and healthy interactions. I agree to conduct myself in a manner that balances the needs of my fellow group members along with my own and understand, that to the best of their ability, the Trip Leader will make decisions that promote the greatest group benefit. 16. Trip Price, Minimum # Required: Four (4) is the required minimum number of participants, including the Trip Leader, for this trip to happen. On February 15, 2025, if the minimum final roster is not met, this trip will be canceled. After February 15, if the trip roster has the minimum number of participants, the trip cost is $3,500 plus, if any, price adjustments for changes in exchange rate or tax, or prices changes for vehicle rental or included accommodations. The fees and expenses in the Trip Description were calculated as of August 2024 and included an estimate for 2025 price increases. Trip price adjustment, if any, is expected to be less than 10%. Cancellation: I understand that I am subject to the following Cancellation Policy for this Global Adventure:
► On February 15, 2025, if the roster is less than 4 people, including the Trip Leader, this trip will be cancelled by The Mountaineers. Those already on the roster will receive a full refund without penalties or administrative fee.
► If I, myself, cancel before February 15, 2025 and the roster does not include the minimum number of 4 people, the refunded amount will include deduction for reservation-holding fees, if any, which may be charged by the vehicle rental agency, any of the Day 2-10 accommodations (price included in trip cost) or any of the Day 0-1, 11-13 accommodations where reservations were held for my benefit (room cost not included in trip cost).
► If I, myself, cancel on or after February 16, 2025 my refund, if any, will depend on whether my space on the roster can be filled by someone on the waiting list. If filled by someone on the waiting list, The Mountaineers $100 administrative fee will be deducted from the refunded amount.
► If I cancel on 02/16/25 or after and my place can not be filled by someone else, I will forfeit my entire payment of $3,500 plus any price adjustments that were announced during the time I was on the roster. See “Trip Price” section 16, above.
► As stated in item 5(3) above, if I'm unable to cooperate in a timely manner with Trip Leader to reserve the hotel rooms held for my benefit in St. John's, Newfoundland (Days 0-1 and Days 11-13) in my own name and credit card, I will be removed from the roster and will be subject to the cancellation terms in this section.
► Except if The Mountaineers cancels the trip, in all cases, there is a $100 Mountaineers administration fee.
