Kids On The Move is a program of Sports Backers that motivates thousands of young people across our region to run and be active on a regular basis. Through a joint effort with the Richmond Road Runners Club, we provide mini-grants to local schools and organizations who seek to implement run clubs, fitness clubs, or host their own running or fitness event. In an effort to retain experienced head coaches and maintain consistency of programming, we are offering stipends to eligible coaches in the 2024-2025 school year. We also loan race equipment that make it easier for schools/clubs to host their own running event.
If you are interested in seeking support for your school, please complete the following application as accurately as possible. In this application, you will be able to indicate WHICH resources you are interested in receiving. See below for additional details about each type of resource:
Mini-Grants - These funds can be used to support a youth fitness or running club or a school-based running or fitness event. The funds can be used to purchase club equipment, provide healthy snacks/drinks for participants, host an end of season celebration, or secure materials needed for hosting an event. The funds cannot be used to purchase apparel. Grant amounts are determined based on the needs of each individual school/organization. The maximum allowable mini-grant award is $500. Awarded funds are mailed to the school or club site typically within 3-4 weeks of applying. If you are interested in seeing a list of items you may want to consider purchasing for your club, check out our
Club Resource Considerations spreadsheet.
Stipends - New this year, we are offering a limited number of stipends for eligible head coaches.
Click here to learn more about the requirements. Eligible coaches will receive $200 per season and can earn a $50 bonus per season for offering club twice per week or more. Stipends will be paid directly to the head coach via check at the conclusion of each season.
Race Equipment - Kids On The Move loans out equipment, such as a timing clock, start and finish flags, directional arrow signs, and race number bibs, to schools and clubs looking to host their own running event. Equipment is reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you indicate interest in this resource, we will follow up with you directly to confirm your reservation and coordinate equipment pick-up/drop-off.
Please be aware that each school/organization may only apply one time during each school year.
