Minnesota Healthy Schools Survey: Spotlight on Success

Supporting the well-being of our school communities goes hand-in-hand with educational success. The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) is looking to spotlight districts and schools that have used the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) Model to amplify school wellness. We have heard from districts and schools that they would like to learn from each other’s successes.

To be a featured district and/or school, please provide a short description of an initiative, policy change, or success story that focused on one or more of the WSCC component areas. We are looking for projects that were implemented within the last two school years and have been sustained.

Your district and/or school may be featured on the MDE School Wellness page in a new feature called Minnesota Healthy Schools: Spotlight on Success.

Project examples from three of the ten WSCC component areas:
  • Nutrition Environment and Services: Procuring local apples as part of a farm to school program connecting healthy foods to the local community.
  • Social and Emotional Climate: Engaging students in a gratitude campaign to foster kindness, inclusivity and connection.
  • Physical Education and Physical Activity: Incorporating “Energizers” (short bursts of movement) within classrooms to allow increased kinesthetic learning.
Thank you for sharing your successes with other schools and districts!
