Thank you for your interest in Water Works at the Y!

Water Works is a brand-new YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago career exploration program designed to unlock a whole new world of careers in and around water — which makes up nearly three-quarters (71%) of the world's surface! From lifeguard to oceanographer, participants will obtain first-hand discovery of a variety of water-related careers.

Our second Water Works Cohorts will take place from Monday, January 6, 2025, to Friday, March 28, 2025! Two 12-week sessions will be held at the McCormick Y (Humboldt Park) and two sessions will be held at the South Side Y (Woodlawn) with one afternoon session taking place from 12 to 3 p.m. and one night session taking place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. All sessions take place from Monday through Thursday with some Saturday activities.

This program will provide varied levels of swim instruction, certification, and career development programming focused on water-related careers at no cost. In addition to all of your costs for certifications and equipment being included, you will also earn a paid stipend!

Don't know how to swim? No problem. No swimsuit? We’ve got you covered! Our expert instructors are ready to help participants acquire the skills needed for industry-recognized lifeguarding certifications and beyond. Career-seekers ages 16 to 24 are encouraged to apply now to determine eligibility.
