Library field intellectual freedom activity survey

Welcome!

This survey is designed to build up an idea of what activities library fields around the world - and in particular associations - are undertaking around intellectual freedom. The goal is both to give a snapshot of what work is already taking place, and provide the basis for a toolkit to help library associations be more active in this space.

We understand intellectual freedom broadly, including the fight against censorship and attack on libraries, but also more broadly promoting inclusion, information integrity, and human rights.

We also see activities as falling into four major categories:

Monitoring: maintaining a regular watch of key stories and developments in your country, in order to identify threats to intellectual freedom

Problem solving: responding to questions and concerns that individual libraries or library and information workers face

Guidance: proactively creating codes, guidelines and other materials to help libraries and library and information professionals better uphold and promote intellectual freedom in their practice

Advocacy: engagement in wider political debates - towards politicians and other stakeholders - in favour of intellectual freedom

Your answers are anonymous (and no IP data is collected), but we do ask you to share an e-mail address if you would like to receive the results directly, or give us the possibility to contact you to ask for more details.

We will publish quantitative data, but will also be keen to draw on resources shared in order to build a toolkit. I each case, please do indicate if you are happy for us to refer to your resources in subsequent publications.
