Participant Information and Consent Form

Thank you for your interest in this study. Please read this consent agreement form carefully before deciding to participate. Please feel free to ask any questions via e-mail if you would like more information or clarification prior to participation.

DO NOT PARTICIPATE UNLESS YOU ARE A HEALTHY, ENGLISH-SPEAKING, MALE OR FEMALE INDIVIDUAL WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD), Asperger's Syndrome, specific language impairment (SLI), a developmental language disorder (DLD), or similar cognitive or psychological developmental disorder.

The aim of this study is to understand the ways in which individuals form impressions of their own personalities with respect to other people and how this relates to sleep. On the following pages, you will be presented with a series of statements about yourself, and then asked to choose the response that best describes how strongly that statement applies to you.

If you choose to participate, you will be asked to provide us with some brief background information before being asked to read and answer a number of these statements. The information that you give will be handled confidentially. All responses will be anonymous and nowhere will your name be connected to your response sheet. The primary research investigator will have sole access to the personal data provided. The data will be stored anonymously in secured files and destroyed upon completion of the study.

Your participation is in this 30 minute study is entirely voluntary. There are no perceived risks associated with participation in or with withdrawal from this study at any time. If you wish to withdraw, simply stop and close the Internet browser window – no questions will be asked and no penalties of any kind will be accrued. We cannot guarantee any direct or indirect benefits to you from participating in this research study. Upon completion of the study, if you would like further information as to the specific predictions and/or hypotheses to be tested, please notify us via e-mail for a complete debriefing.

DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE DATA WE ARE COLLECTING IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU COMPLETE THIS SURVEY IN ONE SITTING. PLEASE ONLY BEGIN IT WHEN YOU HAVE TIME TO COMPLETE IT.

If you agree to participate in this project, this research will be written up as a scientific research publication and deposited both in print and online in the University archives, to facilitate its use in future research. The research will be published with open access meaning available to every internet user.

There are no direct benefits of participation, apart from advancing scientific inquiry, nor risks involved in the study.
