Birdwood Road Park Community Vision Survey

Over 1,000 local residents have signed our petition in support of a new park on Birdwood Road, on six hectares of currently vacant land along Norman Creek.

Now, we’re developing a community vision for the park to help show the state and local governments just how this could be done.

To kick things off, we’re running a survey to find out what would you most like to see in a future Birdwood Road Park?

We'll be sharing the results by email, and using this survey to help inform a draft of a community vision for the site.
1.

The site at 95-129 Birdwood Road is currently approved for development by Philip Usher Constructions. The proposal would include 5-6 storeys of aged care facilities for around 300 residents, taking up 68% of the surface area of the site.

Norman Creek runs through the middle of the site and large parts of the site are in the flood zone. The only vehicle access in and out of the proposed development would be via Birdwood Road, and a bridge over the creek which sits under the council flood map.

Do you support the development of the Birdwood Road site as currently planned by Philip Usher Constructions?

2. The Greens have proposed bringing the 6 hectare corridor of vacant land (shaded in Green on the below map) back into public hands and creating a new public park along Norman Creek, designed alongside the community.

Do you support this idea for a new public park on Birdwood Road? *This question is required.
For the following questions, in a potential new Birdwood Road Park, which features would you most support or least support? These could be features at any part of the park from the above diagram (not only the Philip Usher Constructions site)

Another proposal for the site could include allowing affordable housing to be built on the site, but forcing it to be consistent with the existing neighbourhood plan and other conditions.

Under this proposal, homes could be built only onto the limited parts of the planned Birdwood Road Park area which don’t feature on flood mapping, and must not require access over the creek.

The remainder of the space would still be developed into parkland along the Norman Creek corridor, and on the parts of the Birdwood Road park site within the flood plain.

Would you support housing being built with these conditions?
