The Marine Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking nominations for new members to be appointed to 3-year terms that would commence on November 1, 2026.
The Marine Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) is an internationally recognized source of expertise on maritime transportation, marine technology and offshore development which provides a forum for independent thought, discourse, assessment and examination of complex maritime technical and policy issues of importance to the nation. The Marine Board is part of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Division of the NASEM. Marine Board members are appointed by the NASEM and serve three-year terms without compensation in the national interest.
The Marine Board will have eight vacancies for which we are seeking qualified candidates. The Marine Board is seeking specific expertise in the following areas:
- Port and Terminal Operations
- Ship Operations and Pilotage
- Shipbuilding / Naval Architecture
- Global Shipping Operations
- Maritime Resilience
- Navigation Infrastructure and Technology
- Salvage Operations and Marine Firefighting
- Maritime Security
- Military Sealift
