The Marine Board of the National Academies is seeking nominations for new members to be appointed to 3-year terms that would commence on November 1, 2026.
The Marine Board of the National Academies is an internationally recognized source of expertise on maritime transportation, marine technology and offshore development which provides a forum for independent thought, discourse, assessment and examination of complex maritime technical and policy issues of importance to the nation. The Marine Board operates as part of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) which is also within the National Academies. Marine Board members are appointed and serve three-year terms without compensation in the national interest.
The Marine Board will have seven vacancies for which we are seeking qualified candidates. The Marine Board is seeking specific expertise in the following areas:
- Port and Terminal Operations
- Ship Operations and Pilotage
- Shipbuilding / Naval Architecture
- Maritime Resilience
- Navigation Infrastructure and Technology
- Salvage Operations and Marine Firefighting
- Maritime Security
- Military Sealift
