The Marine Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking nominations for new members to be appointed to 3-year terms that would commence on November 1, 2024*.
The Marine Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) is an internationally recognized source of expertise on maritime transportation, marine technology and offshore development which provides a forum for independent thought, discourse, assessment and examination of complex maritime technical and policy issues of importance to the nation. The Marine Board is part of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Division of the NASEM. Marine Board members are appointed by the NASEM and serve three-year terms without compensation in the national interest.
The Marine Board will have three vacancies for which we are seeking qualified candidates. The Marine Board is seeking specific expertise in the following areas:
- Offshore Energy Operations, Safety and Regulation
- Maritime Economics, Policy and International Trade
- Maritime Law and Regulatory Issues
Current broad areas of interest to the Marine Board include:
- Emerging Technologies in Marine Transportation
- Environmental Justice and Social Equity in the Marine Transportation System
- Human and Intellectual Capital / Workforce Development / Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
- Maritime Resilience
- Future of the Maritime Supply Chain
- Towards Zero Emissions Shipping
- U.S. Maritime Policy
- U.S. Offshore Wind Energy Development
