As you may know, Cairneagle periodically survey key stakeholders in the Early Years market to understand the key issues. Our last survey was in September 2023 and much has changed since.
Most notably, the Government’s plan of 15-hour funding to children aged two has been rolled out in April 2024, with plans to gradually extend the 30-hour funding to all children nine months to five years old by September 2025. This unprecedented announcement will bring about one of the most significant transformations the sector has experienced in recent times and will undoubtedly present new challenges and opportunities.
At the same time, staffing remains a particular challenge, and a lack of qualified staff could hinder providers' ability to benefit from the new demand.
As we enter into the first phase of the free entitlement roll-out, we are now surveying the sector again to understand the current and future implications of the new funding scheme for nursery operators.
