A.V. Pettigrew Award

Overview
This award is presented in honour of Albert (Bert) Victor Pettigrew, a founding and charter member of the Alberta Recreation & Parks Association (ARPA). Known to many in Alberta and Western Canada as “Mr. Recreation” or the “Dean of Recreation,” Bert retired in October 1972 from the Edmonton Parks and Recreation Department after 26 years of devoted service to Edmonton citizens. In honour of his years of service to the people of Alberta and his profession, ARPA inaugurated the A.V. Pettigrew Award in 1972. This award recognizes communities or organizations that have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to enhancing the quality of life of citizens through recreation and parks initiatives. 

Eligibility
  • Communities or Organizations include: 
    • Municipalities
    • Not for Profit Organizations
    • Business
  • Alberta Recreation & Parks Association membership is encouraged and may be prioritized in the selection process
The initiative must:
  • Be completed and have a sustained service to community
  • Promote the quality of life of citizens
  • Achieve a positive impact in the recreation and parks sector
Deadline to nominate is May 31st.

Main components of the application:
  • Contact Information of Nominee Community
  • Outline of the nominee's accomplishments
  • Benefits & goals of accomplishments and how the quality of life for citizens within the community has been enhanced
  • Two letters or e-mails of support OR one letter/e-mail of support and a link to evidence of nominee's merit (award, clippings, etc.)
