Excellence in Youth Development Award

Overview:
The Excellence in Youth Development Award was established to recognize outstanding projects and initiatives utilizing a children and youth development model that empower and support youth ages 12 to 18 in Alberta. Created during the 2003 National Youth Development through Recreation Services Symposium held in Calgary, this award honors projects and initiatives that focus on youth development and recreation, fostering positive outcomes for young people.

Eligibility
  • Alberta based initiatives
    • Communities or Organizations include: 
    • Municipalities
    • Not for Profit Organizations
    • Business
    • Schools
    • Individuals or Groups
  • Alberta Recreation & Parks Association membership is encouraged and may be prioritized in the selection process
  • Youth, themselves, are directly involved in the planning/decision making of the project.
The project or initiative must:
  • Have a primary focus on providing recreational opportunities and experiences specifically designed for youth ages 12 to 18.
  • Showcase a partnership or involve a collaboration of organizations and agencies involved with youth
Deadline to nominate is May 31st.

Main components of the application:
  • Profile of the program/project
  • Description of how the principles of youth development were incorporated into the program/project
  • List of the organizations that collaborated on the program/project
  • Description of how the youth were empowered to be involved with the project
  • Testimonial from a youth participant of the program/project (max 250 words)
  • 1 letter/e-mail of reference supporting the nomination
