Parks Excellence Award

Overview
The Parks Excellence Award, established by the Alberta Recreation & Parks Association (ARPA) Parks and Open Space Network, honors achievements and innovative initiatives in parks and open space operations, aiming to elevate the profile of parks and open space professionals in Alberta.

Eligibility
  • Alberta based initiative.
  • Communities or Organizations include: 
    • Municipalities
    • Not for Profit Organizations
    • Business
    • Individuals or Groups
  • Alberta Recreation & Parks Association membership is encouraged and may be prioritized in the selection process
The initiative must:
  • Showcase innovative practices and approaches in parks and open space operations, demonstrating originality, effectiveness, and adaptability in addressing community needs and challenges. Innovative practices could involve creative solutions, novel methodologies, or unique strategies that improve the management, design, or programming of parks and open spaces.
  • Demonstrate initiatives that promote the “Benefits of Recreation: Personal, Social, Economic, Environmental” (Framework for Recreation in Canada, Page 13)
Deadline to nominate is May 31st.

Main components of the application:
  • Nominee Contact Information
  • Description of the nominee and their involvement in the parks and open spaces sector
  • Description of the innovation or achievement and the setting in which it was applied
  • Description of the anticipated benefits of the innovation or achievement
  • Two letters or e-mails of support OR one letter/e-mail of support and a link to evidence of nominee's merit (award, clippings, etc.)
