As part of ongoing efforts from the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Committee for Emerging Science, Technology, and Innovation in Health and Medicine, this workshop will discuss ethical and societal implications, as well as the potential for unintentional positive and negative consequences arising from advances in science, technology, and innovation within the health and medicine sector.
Utilizing established frameworks from the NAM and the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), discussants and participants will examine concrete case studies of recent emerging technologies, aiming to extract valuable insights and lessons.
Ultimately, the workshop seeks to bring together key stakeholders from across the innovation ecosystem to identify and prioritize high-impact areas for short- and long-term action, with the goal of enhancing the assessment and management of emerging technologies in health and medicine.
