About the Activity & the Call for Experts

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is seeking suggestions for experts to participate in The Committee on Applied and Theoretical Statistics. This committee comprises approximately 20 volunteer experts, and each year, a few of these spaces open as committee members roll off. The National Academies will consider the suggestions from this survey for potential members, speakers, and participants in the committees' activities. Current areas of focus are listed below, but all nominations are welcome.

  • Applications of statistics in finance and/or business
  • Testing and Evaluation of AI
  • Statistical applications in industry
  • Statistical upskilling of the workforce
  • Verification, Validation, and Uncertainty Quantification
  • Visualization and statistics communications


The National Academies value a wide range of perspectives to strengthen the quality of our work. We carefully consider alternative viewpoints when formulating advice, convening experts with differing experience and perspectives, providing oversight, and conducting all other activities, and strive to foster an environment where all can participate fully. We welcome your suggestions for a broad range of experts to work with us.
