About the Showcases:
This year, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will again host the Massachusetts Civics Project Showcases--now expanded to three regional events! At these "science fairs for civics," 8th-12th grade students from across the state will share about real-world action they are taking on community issues, from student mental health to environmental justice to educational equity. The dates and locations are below:
Tuesday, May 28: Bridgewater State University, Bridgewater, MA, 10am-1pm
Monday, June 3: DCU Center, Worcester, MA, 10am-1pm
Friday, June 7: UMass Amherst, Amherst, MA, 10am-1pm
What does a Community Advisor do?:
As part of this event, we are looking for volunteers to serve as Community Advisors. During the Showcase, Advisors will have short conversations with students about their projects. They will ask questions and offer feedback based on their own expertise. Given the wide range in project topics, we are looking for advisors from a diversity of backgrounds: community organizers, legislators, business and non-profit leaders, educators, healthcare workers, and many more. Note: Educators from participating and non-participating districts are welcome to attend as Community Advisors. Join us to celebrate the civic engagement of young people in Massachusetts!
Schedule:
The events will run from 10am-1pm, with registration and light breakfast available at 9:30. The agenda for Community Advisors is below:
9:30-10 Registration (light breakfast available)
10-10:45 Training and welcome for Community Advisors
11-12:30 Student project presentations (science-fair style)
12:30-1 Closing ceremony
Fill out the form below to register as a Community Advisor by May 19. Once you have submitted, your registration is complete! We will be in touch with additional details closer to the event.
