BPHC Workforce Well-being Technical Assistance | Community of Practice 6 Application

Thank you for your interest in participating in one of the BPHC Workforce Well-being Technical Assistance Communities of Practice (CoP)! Please review the information below and answer the following questions, then hit submit to apply.
The Communities of Practice (CoP) are an important technical assistance opportunity designed for health centers who are committed to implementing, or are already implementing, workforce well-being initiatives. Each CoP focuses on a topic that addresses one of the key drivers of workforce well-being to assist health centers with creating, implementing, and evaluating individualized Action Plans. CoPs will comprise up to 30 participants who will meet for 90 minutes every other week over a four-month period. In addition, participants can receive additional optional technical support in between meetings during our scheduled office hours.

Topic: Structuring Clinical Teams and Workflows Amid Workforce Shortages
Date/Time: May 16, 2024 - August 22, 2024. Every other Thursday (8 Sessions) from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. ET
Main Audience: Managers that support clinical teams’ daily operations and work at HRSA supported health centers, such as clinical managers, operations managers, lead nurses, medical directors, and operations directors.

Staff from any HRSA supported health centers are eligible to apply. However, priority will be given to:

  • Managers with direct supervisory roles of clinical teams and/or clinical support staff
  • Health centers that have implemented or are actively preparing to implement team-based care.
  • Applicants who can commit to attending all or most sessions and complete work between sessions
This Community of Practice (CoP) will focus on developing a positive workplace culture by managing workloads to support job satisfaction. The practice-focused sessions will cover essential topics for designing and implementing a team-based model of care to address concerns related to performing unnecessary tasks, having no input or control over one’s work, inadequate staffing, and inadequate time to complete one’s work. Participants will learn organizational strategies for improving the level of control and flexibility over work, balancing work demands and personal time, and implementing effective communication to support a positive work environment. Participants will also be guided through development of a comprehensive action plan tailored to their health centers.

By the end of this CoP, participants will be able to:
  • Understand how to identify opportunities to improve workload and increase job satisfaction.
  • Explain how to create a work environment where staff feel supported and comfortable communicating improvement ideas to leadership.
  • Describe how to apply change management principles to motivate and empower staff to actively engage in restructuring their clinical environment.
  • Support rethinking and redesigning workflows using a multidisciplinary team approach that reduces unnecessary work, maximizes staffing, and ensures staff are working at the top of their licensure, skills, and experience.
  • Develop an action plan to maximize current clinical teams’ potential amid workforce challenges.
