A Note On the Cyanotype Process
Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic printing techniques. It relies on pretreated light-sensitive fabric that, when exposed to sunlight, creates distinctive blueprints.

Whatever object you place on the fabric will block light and leave white traces on the print. The areas exposed to light turn blue.  The more light that reaches the surface, the darker the blue.  (Objects will be available for you to use but please feel free to bring your personal objects, photos, images or anything you would like to print on your flag).

This non-toxic process can be brought into a variety of settings, making it perfect for this project.

The blues, the traces, and the act of recording light combine as powerful tools for thoughtfully addressing the aftermath of this collective trauma. The project will encourage people to engage in compassionate acts of transformation together in the community.
