PRIMR24 ICB Scholarship Application

Introduction

2024 PRIM&R Annual Conference
Institutional Capacity Building (ICB) Scholarship Program Application
Many small, underfunded institutions of higher education in the US need, but do not have, fully functioning oversight programs. Many of these institutions serve primarily minority populations with educational disparities, such as Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs). Others are health institutions serving minority populations with significant health disparities, such as community clinics, regional or area Indian Health Boards, and tribal governments. Almost all such institutions have significantly fewer resources than their larger peer institutions, and many are being asked to take on greater roles in research by participating in studies and/or initiating their own research activities.

We will be funding four teams of two people each in 2024. Each recipient receives:
  • Complimentary registration to PRIMR24 OR the PRIMR24 Virtual Meeting plus registration to one Workshop on November 17 (for in-person attendees only).
  • A one-year PRIM&R membership.
  • Roundtrip, refundable economy travel to Seattle, WA, and hotel accommodations.

Who can apply*? Teams of two oversight staff (HRPP/IRB/ACU/IACUC/IBC) or committee members (IRB, IACUC, IBC) who work at US institutions that are federally-designated HBCUs, HSIs, or TCUs, or other institutions that serve minority populations with significant health disparities, such as community clinics, regional/area Indian Health Boards, and tribal governments.

What are applicants asked to submit as part of the application?
  • Information on the applicants, what they do in the fields research ethics and oversight and/or in the communities they serve.
  • A description of the team's institution, its mission, and the community it serves.
  • A description of how the team will benefit from and use the knowledge and contacts gained by attending the conference.
  • A description of how and when the team will disseminate the knowledge gained at the conference to others in their community.
  • CV/Resume for each applicant.
  • A letter of support from a supervisor stating the institution supports the team’s efforts to attend the conference.
How to apply: Complete the online application by September 27.

*Anyone who has received a scholarship through this program in the past two years is ineligible.
