Join The New York State Community of Practice on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Welcome to the NYS CoP on DEI! We are excited to announce our joint project with The Council on Developmental Disabilities (CDD). Together we are establishing 5 regional teams across New York State. Enclosed, you will find an application to join our community.
We encourage you to apply for this opportunity to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Together, we will support meaningful dialogue in an environment where each voice is valued, and provide training on topics essential to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Whether you are representing an organization, an advocacy group, or you are a person passionate about creating inclusive and equitable environments, you are in the right place! Your unique perspective has the ability to enrich our discussions and contribute to the development of inclusive practices.
By joining our Community of Practice, you will have access to a variety of training materials, data, and toolkits aimed at providing you with the knowledge and skills to create meaningful change. This is an opportunity to share insights, experiences, challenges, and solutions with peers to ensure the accessibility of quality services for underserved communities.
What is a community of practice?
A community of practice is a group of people with common interests or concerns who come together to share knowledge and fulfill a goal. Our goal is to facilitate greater access to quality services for underserved populations across New York.
Do I have to have prior experience in the field of DEI to apply?
While experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion is certainly welcomed, it is not a requirement for selection. We encourage people from all backgrounds and levels of experience to apply. Our community of practice is an inclusive and supportive space where everyone can learn and grow.
*AHRC Nassau is an internationally recognized and CQL accredited and Compass agency on Long Island that is committed to making tangible steps toward a more equitable future. We welcome all in the IDD field to apply who are passionate and share in our mission. We believe that diversity of thought and experiences is a key factor in achieving our mission.
Selection Requirements
Completed applications will be reviewed by a select group of reviewers consisting of all stakeholders (Self-Advocates, Staff and Families). Regional Teams will consist of no more than 50 members in each region of NYS. Organizations/Individuals should consider putting forth one to two names representing their agency/organization or group. One person should be considered an alternate to step in if the other cannot fulfill their role in regularly participating in the team meetings and initiatives.
