Application for The Learning Centers (TLC) & SALSA Program Positions

Positions in The Learning Centers (TLC):
  • Desk Assistants contribute administrative support, serve as the initial point of contact for students visiting our centers, and help make The Learning Centers inviting places for students to study and receive support.
  • Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders are assigned to a specific course and instructor; they attend all class lectures, take notes, and act as model students. Outside of the class, SI Leaders facilitate group sessions for students to improve their understanding of course material, review and discuss important concepts, develop study strategies, and prepare for exams.   • Tutors assist students one-on-one and in small group settings with related course content. They encourage students to develop effective study skills and may be assigned to work in the centers or inside classrooms.
  • Writing Consultants work with students in one-to-one sessions and assist faculty inside writing classrooms. They talk with students about their ideas, organization, and writing skills with the primary goal of helping students develop as writers.
TLC Pay and Application Info:
  • 2024 hourly pay rate: starting at a minimum of $16.00, to be determined by Human Resources
  • Application Due Date: May 12, 2024; applications received after this date will be reviewed for potential spring 2025 hiring, with interviews in December 2024
  • Interviews: After we review all of the applications, we will send email notifications to applicants selected for interviews by May 20th. If you are selected, plan for interviews to take place on the Oceanside Campus on June 3 - 4, 2024.

Positions in The Science and Laboratory Skills Advancement (SALSA) Program:
  • Lab Assistants work with instructors and staff with hands-on lab support in chemistry, physics, biotechnology, and biology labs.
SALSA Pay and Application Info:
  • 2024 hourly pay rate: starting at a minimum of $16.00, to be determined by Human Resources
  • Application Due Date: April 28, 2024
