Transition to Kindergarten Profile 2024-25

Your role as a District Assessment Coordinator (DAC) includes ensuring Transition to Kindergarten (TK) teachers and principal(s) implement the WaKIDS Whole-child Assessment. The purpose of this form is to assist districts in preparing to meet the assessment requirements according to the structure of your unique TK program. Please collaborate with necessary stakeholders in implementing TK in your district to answer questions for this survey.

Because TK programs may begin at any point between beginning of the school year and January 31st, each district that wishes to implement TK needs to identify the appropriate WaKIDS Whole-child Assessment deadline for their district’s TK program. To communicate expectations and monitor completion, please complete this form with your district’s plan for the TK in 2024-25 school year.

OSPI adopted permanent rules for the 2024-25 school year, please visit the OSPI TK webpage for updated rules and guidance for implementing a TK program.

Here are some important items for you to keep in mind concerning your TK implementation and when answering this survey:

1.
WaKIDS Whole-child Assessment data for your TK students must be submitted and finalized by the checkpoint date (Fall: November 15, Winter: March 15, Spring: June 15).
  • Note: RCW 28A.300.072 requires TK programs to administer all three components of WaKIDS at the start of the program and the WaKIDS Whole-child Assessment one more time during the school year (for example November 15 and June 15).
2. The last day to begin a new TK program is January 31.

3.
All TK teachers of record must successfully complete the WaKIDS 101 training and Inter-rater Reliability Certification to implement the assessment. Summer training runs from July to October and training is offered every month from November to February to allow time for TK teachers to be trained before they implement all three components of WaKIDS. More information about the WaKIDS 101 training is available on our website.

4. Beginning with the 2024-25 school year, students enrolled in TK are to be submitted to CEDARS with a grade level of TK. Monthly TK enrollment is required to be reported in CEDARS by the 15th each month.   5. A new response to this survey will override all previous survey responses from your district. If you have any updates to your TK plan, please submit a new response.
