Massachusetts can take pride in being one of a handful of states with full voting rights for a student on the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (Board). As we celebrate the 52nd anniversary of legislation creating student representation on the Board, it is DESE's responsibility to oversee elections for the 2024-2025 Student Advisory Council.

After students have been identified to represent your school, please submit your results electronically using this survey.

The information collected will allow your school's student representatives to participate on the Regional Student Advisory Council and the State Student Advisory Council. 9. Below are the general expectations and time commitments for school advisors. Please check each to indicate that you have read and are able to meet these expectations. *This question is required.

Support student representatives to actively engage in council meetings (e.g. this may include but is not limited to meeting attendance logistics, parent engagement & communication, communicating with school around meeting attendance etc.)
Attend Regional council meetings (monthly/bi-monthly; 1-2hrs). Attending regional council meetings is highly encourage but not required. Ideally, we would like all advisors to attend at least one regional council meeting. Attending regional council meetings is an opportunity to:
* network, engage and build community with other school advisors in your district's region
* gather resources and strategies to best support your school's representative in their roles
Liaison with DESE regional council advisors to mitigate and resolve student representatives' concerns or issues (e.g. attendance at meetings, new representation)
