Thank you for your interest in the American Psychiatric Association (APA)'s Rising Psychiatry Scholars Program (RPSP). This one year program, beginning in October, offers current undergraduates at accredited U.S. Community Colleges and two-year Tribal Colleges an introduction into the exciting field of psychiatry, prepares participants to enter 4-year Universities and gets participants thinking about medical school. We do this through providing a critical thinking course meant to prepare participants for standardize test taking, career development opportunities, educational sessions, mentorship, networking opportunities, and attendance to The Future Leaders Academy hosted annually in different states. At this academy, participants tour universities, meet with medical faculty, hear from industry leaders, and are introduced to different types of psychiatric careers.
Our two goals are to decrease barriers of access in applying to medical school for under-represented minorities (URMs) and to increase the amount of URMs interested in creating social change through a career in psychiatry.
If you believe yourself to be a good fit for our program, please fill out this application. The deadline for submission of this application closes on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. (Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time).
