Improving Asthma in Ohio Schools Scholarship Form

Thank you for your interest in joining our efforts to improve pediatric asthma in Ohio! The Lung Association is providing targeted outreach in Ohio to recruit school nurses to increase their capacity to deliver asthma guidelines-based care and asthma self-management education.  

For a limited time, you can participate in our professional development course, Asthma Educator Institute, and become trained as a certified facilitator to deliver Open Airways for Schools (for ages 8-11) and/or Kickin' Asthma (for ages 11 - 16) at no cost to you. Scholarships are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. 



The Asthma Educator Institute is a preparatory course for those qualified to take the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) examination and also for individuals who want to implement asthma guidelines-based care. The course is available as a 3-day virtual workshop or a self-paced online course. For a limited time, we are offering scholarships (a $300 value) to participate in the workshop or online course. To be eligible for this scholarship, you must
  • Serve children in a school or community setting in Ohio.
  • Be willing to complete Asthma Basics prior to participating in the workshop or online course.
  • Be able to complete the workshop or online course no later than 1/30/2025.

The Open Airways for Schools or Kickin' Asthma Facilitator Training Scholarship include the blended learning training, technical assistance with Lung Association staff, ongoing support, access to online resources and a facilitator toolkit (i.e., asthma demonstration devices, curriculum, and materials). For a limited time, we are offering facilitator training scholarships (a $400 value). To be eligible for this scholarship(s), you must
  • Serve children in a school or community setting in Ohio.
  • Be able to complete the training(s) no later than 11/30/2024.
  • Implement at least one OAS or Kickin' Asthma program (in-person or virtually) during the 2024-2025 school year (minimum 3 children per program).
  • Submit a Facilitator Report Form after each program. 
  • Have students complete a confidential OAS or KA Participant Evaluation Form.

Applicants are encouraged to complete the course, Stock Asthma Medication: Implementation Guidance for Schools, and schools are eligible to receive a Stock Asthma Medication Stipend (up to $1000) to purchase supplies and support implementation of your emergency stock asthma medication program. If your school is interested in being consider for the stock asthma medication stipend, please let us know in the form below.
