Tech2Empower supports change-makers by getting technology expertise to women leaders in the nonprofit sector, social entrepreneurs, and at schools focused on girls' education and leadership. We do this by connecting them with teams of volunteer Advisors from top companies such as Accenture, Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Salesforce as well as smaller companies. Advisors collaborate with local partners through impact project work, coaching, and tech training.
In June 2024, WAKE will launch Tech2Empower Malaysia in Penang, Malaysia. WAKE is honored to partner with Harpswell, an inspiring nonprofit we first met during our 2018 Tech2Empower Cambodia program. Our two organizations are united in our belief that women lead change. Tech2Empower Malaysia will coincide with Harpswell’s annual ASEAN Women’s Leadership Summit, which brings 22 young women aged 25-30, two from each of the ten countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as Nepal, to Malaysia for an immersion in leadership development and professional networking.
WAKE is recruiting a team of volunteer Tech2Empower Advisors to join us in Penang, where we will participate in Harpswell’s Women’s Leadership Summit. Tech2Empower Advisors will learn alongside the inspiring young ASEAN leaders, as well as lead interactive workshops on tech, communications and leadership topics and host coaching and mentoring circles. We will also collaborate with Malaysian, women-led organizations to undertake social impact projects to advance their work.
Tech2Empower Advisors will have the opportunity to:
- Work in teams to coach and co-create (systems, strategies, plans, digital collateral) with local women-led organization leaders.
- Provide mentorship to ASEAN women selected to join the Harpswell ASEAN Women's Leadership Summit
- Lead workshops on careers, leadership, and tech.
- Build meaningful connections with like-minded women working locally and internationally.
- Learn about local history, visit landmarks, and participate in cultural enrichment activities.
- Learn new technology, training, communications, and leadership skills from fellow Advisors and local participants.
Program Details + Cost
Dates: Saturday, June 1 - Saturday, June 8, 2024
Location: Penang Island, Malaysia
Advisor fee: $5,500* (with company matching benefit, cost is $3,500 to the Advisor + $2,000 from company match)
This contribution supports and covers:
- 7 nights hotel stay in George Town, the capital city of the Malaysian state of Penang.
- Group transportation and meals.
- Pre-departure volunteer preparation, materials and orientation.
- Work with local partners.
- Community and school events.
- Site visits, volunteer work + meetings.
- Support and preparation for volunteer roles.
- Historical and cultural events and sightseeing.
*Does not include: flights, airport transfers, visa costs, alcohol and personal incidentals. Many employers cover or match costs for professional development + volunteerism and provide paid time off. Hotel costs are typically not eligible for matching.

We are committed to making Tech2Empower a rich, rewarding, inclusive and meaningful experience for Advisors and local participants. The WAKE team will provide assistance with all aspects of the Tech2Empower trip. WAKE will provide relevant materials, background information and ongoing support to ensure Advisors are well-prepared for their roles, meet amazing women and girls and have unique learning and volunteer experiences.
