KDOT Safe Routes to School Advisory Committee Application

KDOT SRTS Advisory Committee Application

Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a multi-faceted program that promotes walking, biking, and rolling to school through policies, programming, and infrastructure. SRTS programs can improve safety, increase health outcomes and physical activity levels, and decrease the number of families driving to school, which can reduce traffic, improve air quality, and reduce costs for families.

The program is going through a "revamp" in the 2023 school year and, as such, is looking to create its first Safe Routes to School Advisory Committee (SRAC). The SRAC will help guide KDOT's SRTS Program, by providing feedback, advice, and knowledge gained through professional expertise or lived experience. The SRAC will be composed of 10-20 volunteer members representing interests including, but not limited to: state agencies that work with or who's missions align with SRTS work, bicycle and pedestrian advocacy organizations, Safe Routes to School practitioners, school districts, public health professionals, and equity and safety representatives, among others.

The SRAC will meet six times a year for 1 - 1.5 hours. All meetings will be virtual with a potential for one optional kick-off meeting a year (still TBD). SRAC members are expected to attend all meetings and review any materials provided before each meeting (expected to be 30 minutes to 1 hour of review). More information on the SRAC's responsibilities can be found in the SRAC Charter.

We are ecstatic that you are interested in being on KDOT's inaugural SRAC.
