Thank you for your interest in your IP-CANS Decision Support Model (DSM) county distribution data. The DSM is a strategy for organizing youth with similar constellations of needs and strengths into distinct groups. California’s DSM levels are informed by the IP-CANS of all foster youth who have their IP-CANS entered into CARES-Live in California. The University of Kentucky’s Center for Innovation in Population Health (IPH) developed the DSM at the request of CDSS to better understand and guide policy for foster youth in California.
County specific DSM distributions will display the number of children in each specific DSM group. These distributions can support your department’s understanding of youth’s needs and strengths and support continuous quality improvement efforts.
Regarding the presentation of the DSM distributions, counties can request one of the following:
1.Written presentation of the DSM distributions sent via email
2.Written presentation and virtual consultation with CDSS and IPH
