Fellowship Advisor Role Overview

Overview

Academy fellowships provide unique, dedicated pathways for highly skilled Victorian teachers, known as teacher fellows, in government, Catholic and Independent schools to develop their expertise and capacity to be agents of change in school system improvement.

As part of the Teaching Innovation Fellowship, teacher fellows are paired with an experienced retired educational leader, known as a Fellowship Advisor, who provides guidance and feedback to the teacher fellow as they design and implement an innovation project.   

The Fellowship Advisor Role
Fellowship advisors contribute to the teacher fellows’ learning experience through a collaborative and supportive approach. The fellowship advisor will support the teacher fellow to track progress towards their identified project objectives, and to engage in reflective practice. Fellowship advisors will work in partnership with the Academy team to assist teacher fellows in navigating and meeting fellowship requirements.

The fellowship advisor role involves:
  • guiding teacher fellows to enhance the quality of their innovation projects
  • coaching teacher fellows to engage in reflective practice
  • offer observations, feedback or educational input to help strengthen project implementation
  • work with the Academy team to support teacher fellows to meet learning and reporting requirements
  • reporting on fellowship progress
  • contribute to assessment and evaluation of the fellowships program
  • evaluating teachers’ applications or written submissions
  • attending professional learning or meetings are required by the Academy

Time commitment
Duration of the Fellowship Advisor 2024 role will be from January 2024 – December 2024. 

Fellowship advisors will be assigned to guide teacher fellows in up to 4 different projects. They will provide a total of 6 x 1 hour advisories to the teacher fellow(s) within each project. Advisories must be provided during specific dates as set by the Academy. 

Total time commitment based on a 1 x project allocation throughout the year has been estimated below. Please note this is an estimation only and may be subject to changes: 
 
  • Attending mandatory professional learning days - up to 20 hours 
  • Advisory service delivery, online  - up to 14 hours per project
  • Reviewing submissions and applications - up to 12 hours

Total time commitment in a 1 x project allocation up to 46 hours.
