New Mexico Innovation in Education 2023 Nomination Form

There is a clear need for innovative school systems and practices with the potential to close the opportunity gap and grow outcomes for New Mexico’s students. Launched in 2022, Teach Plus New Mexico’s innovation work has focused on holistically understanding students’ and communities’ needs, listening to the teachers who serve them on a daily basis, and highlighting innovative and effective approaches that are generating results for students. Throughout this process, our goal is to amplify and expand these practices, giving more students the opportunity to access innovative models of teaching and learning. Earlier this year we highlighted schools with innovative approaches to instructional practices, support systems, and family or community engagement in our report Growing Outcomes Through Innovation: Instruction, Support, and Engagement.

This year, we are looking to highlight schools with proven innovative practices and systems in the following areas:
  1. Innovations in teaching early literacy and math: Instructional practices focused on student-centered, individualized instruction designed to increase student engagement and outcomes in early literacy and math.
  2. Innovative support for underserved student groups: Systems focused on providing high-quality support and connected to improved outcomes for students experiencing homelessness, in foster care, and students with disabilities. (Note: these three groups have the lowest graduation rate.)
  3. Innovations to increase high school graduation rate: Practices that move beyond expected high school experiences, integrate unique programs or inputs, and meet the individual needs of students to increase the graduation rates and post secondary success in order to improve quality of life.
Specifically, we are looking for innovative practices and systems that:
  • Have produced a measurable increase in student engagement, student learning and/or student performance
  • Can be replicated with fidelity in a variety of districts and regions
If you know of a school that has proven outcomes related to one or more of these areas, nominate them as a Teach Plus Innovative School in Education. Selected schools will be featured in a statewide report and will host a learning session for educational stakeholders from across the state at our Innovation in Education event to be held in the summer 2024 in Albuquerque.
4. Please select the school's category of innovation. *This question is required.
7. Does the school have data to support the effectiveness of their innovation? (Data examples: iStation data, district assessment data, graduation rates over time, student attendance data by grade/subgroup, CTE program completion rates by subgroup, improvements in classes passed by subgroups).
13. We’d love to have photos to illustrate the work. If you have photos available, please upload them. If students or teachers are featured in the photo, please make sure they have signed media releases. (optional)
