International Affiliate University - Expression of Interest Form

Affiliate University Benefits 
Fields Institute activities are wide in scope and global in nature, with yearly participants from nearly 100 countries. Affiliate Universities share a closer relationship with the Institute including participation in yearly meetings to learn about and advise on the Institute’s governance and direction.

International affiliate universities gain access to special services and privileges at the Institute of benefit to both faculty and students. 

 

Student Support

Free registration for up to ten (10) Fields Shared Graduate Courses per year. The courses are presented by Fields' partner and affiliate universities and held online. The cost to register is usually $500/course.

For Faculty

  1. Scientific Research - receive direct notice of opportunities to propose programs to be supported by the Fields Institute, including:
    • Thematic and Focus Programs are one- to six-month programs on a specific topic supported with:
      • Funding - from $75,000 CAD for a one-month Focus Program to $400,000 CAD for a six-month Thematic Program.
      • Logistics - staff to help plan, promote and execute programs, including registering and tracking participants, booking rooms and videoconferences and promoting programs to the Fields networks
      • Space - organizers and participants may receive office space and/or services at the Institute during the program.
    • General Scientific Activities are shorter events, such as workshops and conferences, including summer schools for graduate and undergraduate students. Activities can take place at the Institute, at our partner universities or online, and cover an astonishing range of areas in the mathematical sciences.
      • Funding – up to $5,000 CAD per day
      • Logistics - staff to help plan, promote and execute programs, including registering and tracking participants, booking rooms and videoconferences and promoting programs to the Fields networks
  2. Mathematics Community
    • Connect with the mathematics community in Canada and around the world through special events and meetings involving our partner institutions.
    • Connect different areas of research with mathematics through the Fields Centres: Centre for Mathematical Medicine, Centre for Financial Industries, Centre for Sustainable Development, Centre for Mathematics Education.
  3. Graduate & Undergraduate Programs
    • The potential to offer a Fields Shared Graduate Course, which can be taken by students from across Canada and globally, making it possible to teach subjects which may not, otherwise, attract enough students in a single department.
    • Engage with some of the brightest undergraduate mathematical minds by supervising a project in the Fields Undergraduate Summer Research Project program.

Recognition
  • The International Affiliate University is acknowledged with its logo and name in the Newsletter, the Annual Report, as well as on the Institute website, joining more than 25 other respected universities, corporations and institutions.
  • Members of the International Affiliate University are invited to participate in special events, such as the Fields Medal Symposium Public Opening.
Become an International Affiliate University through an annual fee of $5,000 USD.
