Welcome
Thank you for your interest in enrolling your child to benefit from a volunteer Mentor with Companions for Children. After submitting the information below, our staff will be in contact to ensure eligibility and to complete the enrollment process.
Parents/Guardians,
Your child is invited to participate in Companions for Children's StrongHER Program, a new mentoring initiative
exclusively for middle school girls. StrongHER is designed to empower girls through mentorship and hands-on learning.
The program will take place during the school day and includes four 45-minute sessions held during the spring
semester.
Each session will feature engaging discussions and activities focused on building confidence, developing leadership
skills, and promoting healthy relationships. Female mentors from the community will take part in the program to provide
positive role models and guidance throughout the sessions.
This pilot program is free to participate in, made possible through grant funding from the Minot Area Community
Foundation's NWND Fund for Girls.
Parents,
Your child's class is one of the very few classrooms in the Minot area that is participating in Companions for Children's Pen Pals Program. In this program, students are "matched" with a Mentor who will exchange letters with them for the duration of the school year. This program is geared towards all skill levels and with their teacher’s help,
this program is intended to help build their writing and literacy skills in a fun way while also getting to know a member of our community!
Students will receive their “mail” through a real-life mailbox in the classroom, with mail addressed and (fake) stamped to them! They will then read their mail with their classmates and write back monthly. Companions for Children’s office will act as a central distributor, receiving and screening the letters, and forwarding the mail to their Mentor.
Attached you will find a short form for you to fill out and sign for participation. The information you provide in this form is held confidential and is only used for reporting
purposes for grant funding, allowing programs like this to continue. No information will be shared with the Mentor other than your child’s first name and any information they write in their letters. Again, letters are screened to ensure uniquely identifiable or sensitive information is not shared. Letters will be redacted, if necessary, safety is
priority.
If you have any further questions, please contact your student’s teacher or Companions for Children directly. We are so excited to provide this program for your child’s classroom and hope they enjoy the unique way of learning!
