Shared Stewardship and Ethical Returns Inquiry/Request Form
Use this form to make an inquiry or request for shared stewardship or ethical return based on knowledge of unethical acquisition or concern for appropriate cultural care.
Inquiries/requests will be reviewed in the order in which they are received. The Shared Stewardship and Ethical Returns team will respond within 15 business days.
When submitting this form, include as much information as you know about the item(s) requested including, if possible, the circumstances of how the item(s) came to be at the NMAI, and your relationship to the item(s). If you have questions about the inquiry/request process, contact NMAI-SSER@si.edu.
Note that items eligible for repatriation under the NMAI Act, as implemented by the NMAI Repatriation Policy, take precedence to the SSER Policy. For information on inquiries involving human remains, funerary objects, sacred objects, or objects of cultural patrimony, visit the Repatriation page.
