Preferred Contractor Network Site Verification

The site verification is a key enrollment step for your company to demonstrate quality work and gain a listing on the Minnesota Air Source Heat Pump Collaborative’s Preferred Contractor Network. The installation site must be:
  • An existing, detached single family home. The site must be for a customer installation. We cannot use your or any of your employee’s homes for the site verification.
  • A centrally ducted site, with the ASHP installed within the last 12 months.
  • A system sized and selected according to MN ASHP Collaborative best practices, depending on the type of secondary fuel:
    • Propane and electric resistance: the system should be sized to maximize runtime of the ASHP (as ductwork allows).
    • Natural gas: the system should be sized for the cooling load, with an economic switchover temperature determined by electric and natural gas rates, unless the customer’s primary motivation is to reduce carbon emissions.
Dual fuel systems must have a switchover temperature set at or above the system's capacity balance point (as determined by the NEEP Sizing for Heating tool), or a control strategy to switch to secondary heat if the heating load is not being met. We will be verifying this using the AHRI number, heating design load, and weather data for the ZIP code you provide. If you are unfamiliar with this free tool, you can learn how to use it and check your system's capacity balance point here.

The installation must follow best practices outlined in the MN ASHP Collaborative Best Practices Installation Guide.

We’ll also assess the homeowner’s experience with the heat pump and knowledge of its operation through a brief online survey. Once you’ve completed this portion of the site verification, you will receive an automated email with a link you can pass along to the homeowner. Please contact info@mnashp.org with any questions.
3. Was the heat pump installed in your home or any of your employees’ homes?
Systems installed in employee homes are ineligible for the site verification and will not be reviewed. *This question is required.
This question requires a valid email address.

7. Secondary fuel type *This question is required.
8. Please select which logic controls are set up for the system to switch a heat call from the heat pump to propane or gas heat.  *This question is required.

8. Do you have a Manual J report or other documentation of load calculations you can upload? If you do not have a report available, the next section will ask you for the information we need on heating and cooling loads. *This question is required.

Next, we’ll ask you to take some photos showing key components of the heat pump installation. If you complete the survey on a mobile device, you’ll be able to take photos as you go. Please follow the example photos as closely as possible and use flash or indoor lighting to ensure good photo quality. First, we’ll ask for photos of the indoor components of the system.
10. Indoor unit
Please take a photo showing the indoor unit and furnace or air handler. The photo should show a wide view of the unit like the one below.
*This question is required.

Next, we’ll ask for some photos of the outdoor unit. If you complete the survey on a mobile device, you’ll be able to take photos as you go. Please follow the example photos as closely as possible and use flash as needed to ensure good photo quality.
11. Outdoor unit nameplate
Please take a photo showing the outdoor unit’s nameplate.

  *This question is required.
12. Line set
Please take a photo showing the insulated and UV-protected line set where it connects with the outdoor unit. If possible, please remove any metal covering so the insulation is visible up to the flare nut.
*This question is required.
13. Wall penetration
Please take a photo showing that the wall penetration for the line set has been sealed.
*This question is required.
14. Outdoor unit
Please take a photo showing where the outdoor unit is placed relative to the home’s roofline, so we can ensure the unit is not located under any driplines. When you take the photo, stand in line with the edge of the house, facing the side of the outdoor unit. Please stand back as far as you need to ensure the edge of the roof is clearly in the frame.
*This question is required.
15. Outdoor unit
Please take a photo facing the outdoor unit, showing its clearance from the ground. This should be a wide view of the entire area the outdoor unit is installed, to ensure there is adequate clearance for airflow and maintenance.
