2023 Academic Debates

Call for Academic Debate Submissions

Please submit your team application for consideration for the AASLD Annual Academic Debates at The Liver Meeting® 2023. We are excited to build upon the success of our prior academic debates!

All submissions received by August 23, 2023 will be considered.

In order to give more teams and institutions a chance to participate in the Academic Debates, we will not accept applications from institutions that have had a team in the Debates in the past 2 years (2021-2022).

Awards: 
  • All participants: $500 honorarium, complimentary meeting registration, one-night hotel accommodation reimbursement at the headquarter hotel (Sheraton Boston).
  • Winners: Recognition as the Winners of the Academic Debates, including your names on The Liver Cup, a framed photo, and a mini Liver Cup replica to take home

Team Requirements:
  • 2 Fellows-in-Training (at least 1 fellow in Transplant Hepatology fellowship; this includes traditional 4th year fellows and/or GI/TH dual certification fellows)
  • 1 Faculty Mentor (this will be the onsite mentor on stage with the fellows and serve as primary contact for the team)
  • All participants are required to attend the Academic Debates in person at The Liver Meeting® on Saturday, November 11 in Boston, MA, 4:00 - 5:00 PM ET*
 
**Complete the online application by August 23, 2023**
  • Identify Fellow participants (2) and Faculty mentor (1)
  • Develop and submit a two-minute audition video of a debate with a fun topic of your choosing (it does not need to be liver related). This video may be used for promotional purposes.
  • Identify 2 topics you would like to see debated and brief (250 words) explanation why. Note: While the topics you submit are considered in the selection process, if your team is chosen, your topic may or may not be selected.
