LEA Determination Assurances & Activities Due May 10, 2024

This required survey collects your LEA Determination assurances and required documentation based on the level of determination/support assigned to your LEA.

For detailed information on the LEA Determination process, please review the Determinations & Differentiated Levels of Support module, which contains detailed information about this process as well as the required forms based on your level of determination.

Your LEA name, number, and corresponding Differentiated Level of Support are in the table below. When completing this survey, you must know your Level of Support because questions and requirements populate based on your identified level. 

PLEASE NOTE: If you are a newer charter school and do not see your LEA name listed, you do not have enough historical data to create a determination report.

Understanding your LEA's data is a key component to the health and success of your special education program. The remaining questions deal with your LEA's data.

4. My district/charter's special education director or designee attended the Data Drill Down in the fall of 2023.

My district/charter has reviewed our special education LEA Determination data issued in June 2023. *This question is required.
*The following question deals with inexperienced staff members at your LEA and the requirement for "new" staff to attend SESTA's Essential Components to the IEP training.
The SDE allows the district/charter to determine what is meant by "new" staff; however, special education staff who are in their first year in the profession MUST attend Essential Components. The SDE encourages LEAs to require staff members who do not have a solid understanding of the IEP process to attend SESTA's Essentials training. 
5. All *new special education staff in my district/charter completed one of the following:
  • attended the SESTA Essentials training,
  • viewed the IEP implementation modules on the Idaho Training Clearinghouse or,
  • New special education staff attended our district/charter's comparable training.
After carefully reviewing the LEA's data, select staff members from my LEA attended SESTA or other training(s) aligned to an area of needed improvement discovered in the LEA's data.

*NOTE: Your LEA must create an action item(s) aligned to the training the LEA's staff attended.  When creating your action item(s), keep the following steps in mind:
  1. Analyze the Data
  2. Clarify and Prioritize the Problem(s)
  3. Attend a webinar, training, or PD aligned to the priority(s)
  4. Implement Solutions: The Action Item/Plan
  5. Monitor and Evaluate
It is a requirement for the special education director or designee(s) to identify appropriate staff to attend a SESTA or SDE training around an area of needed improvement as indicated by the LEAs' Determination report. If staff members could not attend a training, please contact Debi Smith, Support and Monitoring Coordinator, for a list of training modules aligned to the LEA's area of need. 
Your LEA is in Level 3: Directing.
Level 3: Directing is a 3-year process. As an LEA in Level 3: Directing, you are required to;


Year 1 of identification- complete a self-assessment around a chosen area of need

Year 1 of identification- create a 3-year SMART goal targeting your chosen area of need

Years 2 & 3 of identification- Report evidence of progress towards the SMART goal

Lesson 8, Resources & Reminders, within the module, contains all the necessary documents to complete your requirements.
