Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) Opt Out

To receive service from Minnesota Power, an electric meter is required. Our standard metering technology installed is an advanced meter. If you want to opt out of the advanced meter installation, you will receive a non-communicating meter. This will result in an additional monthly charge on your electric bill called an AMI Opt Out Charge.

Non-communicating meters are manually read by a Minnesota Power representative and must be accessible year round. When circumstances prevent reading a meter, energy usage may be estimated. For more information, please visit our website at www.mnpower.com/CustomerService/AMI.

**Note: Special rates such as Time of Day, Electric Vehicle, Dual Fuel, Parallel Generation or Controlled Access require an advanced meter. Opting out of an advanced meter will make you ineligible for these rates and can result in billing impacts. Please call Minnesota Power at 800-228-4966 if you would like to discuss these changes in more detail.
Your account number can be found in the upper left corner of your bill. We cannot process your application without your account number. This question requires a valid number format.
